(Sorrow of Happiness)

Translation
There is no big happiness in life
I am not terribly sad about this fact.
Because i am a small man,
If big joys come to my house
I have no room big enough, where i can keep them.

Translation
There is one thing
which is even more painful,
Looking at the big joys
My kids get shocked,
I have tried many times
to explain them that joy is not a thing to be afraid of.

Translation
But it is all in vain.
I have observed that whenever
They find a joy somewhere on the way
or in the bazaar or in someone else's house
Then happiness comes in their eyes
But along with it creeps in a fear.

Translation
More aptly i should say
They get a speck of happiness, and a huge shadow of fear.
Their everyday behavior
no longer remains normal,
Seeing this i get so sad
that i am not able to say anything to them.

Translation
I want to tell them that "Son, this is happiness,
Don't be afraid of this, go ahead and touch it.
It is a swing which gives lots of fun,
go ahead and take a ride on it"
But the kids dont move from their standstill position.
They just keep staring at the joys.
If i push them towards the joy to enjoy it
They scream in horror and run far away from it.

Translation
Hence, i have killed the desire of all big joys
i had once bought a pitcher to store the joys,
I have broken it now.

(Desire of a flower)

Translation:
I never desired to become an ornament for the hairs of a beautiful girl,
I never desired to become part of the wedding garland of a pretty bride.

Translation:

I never desired to be showered on the dead-bodies of great kings,
I never desired to be placed on the heads of Gods and consider myself lucky.

Translation:

O Gardner, pluck me and throw me on that path
Which the brave take to be martyred for their motherland.

(The Paper Boat)

Translation:
Take away all my wealth, take away all my fame.
Even take away my youth.
But return back the monsoon of my childhood.
That boat of paper , that rain-water....!!!

(The Game of Love)

Translation:

I, Khusrau, play the game of love with my beloved,If I win, the beloved’s mine, defeated, I’m beloved’s.

(Teacher is a potter)

Translation:
A Student is like a pot and a teacher is like a potter who removes the deformities of the pot by hitting.
The Potter keeps the hand on the inside and hits hard on the surface.

Translation:
My own people have beaten me, the others did not have the guts to do so.
My boat sank at a place where there was less water.

(Temporary Man)

Translation:
No one has been able to measure the depth of the sea.
No one has been able to measure the vastness of the sky.

Just like the infinite number of particles in sand.
I have found myself to be scattered.

I have many colors, I have many feelings.
Dont try to explain me by words.

Every moment my behavior changes.
Afterall I am a temporary man.

(River of Love)

Translation :
O Khusro, the river of love has strange flow
The one who gets in , drowns, and only the one who drown gets across.

(Rahim's Couplets)

Translation:

No Desires left, Worries are gone, the mind is tension-free
The who who wants nothing is the king of the kings.

Translation:

O Rahim, those men are as good as dead who beg for help.
But more dead are those whose mouth says 'NO'.

Translation:

O Rahim, Love is like a thread, dont break it by snaapping
Once broken it never joins, even after joining the knot remains forever

Translation:

The tree does not eats it's own fruit, the lake does not drink its water.
For the welfare of the others, the good one accumulates wealth, so says Rahim.

(Kabir's Couplets)

Translation :
I searched for the bad one all over, met not a single one
When searched within self, "I" found that no one is as bad as me.

Translation :
Give so much O God, suffice to envelop my family
I should not suffer cravings, nor the visitor goes unfed

Translation :
Reading books everyone died, none became any wise
One who reads the word of Love, only becomes wise.

Translation :
In sorrow everyone prays to Him, in joy does none
To One who prays in happiness, how sorrow can come

Translation :
It is waste to be eminent like a date tree
No shade for travelers, fruit is hard to reach

Translation:
The world is so mad, it goes all the way to worship stone
No one worships the grinding stone at home, ground grain from which we all eat.

देह शिवा वर मोहे, शुभ करमन से कबहूँ ना तरूं;

Translation:
O Lord, give me these wishes
May I never shirk from doing good deeds
Never shall I fear when I go to fight the enemy
with surety I shall attain victory

Translation:

Brave is he who fights for the underprivileged.
He sacrifices himself slain to pieces, but does not give up the field.

Translation:
There was a star in life
agreed, it was much loved
when it sank, it did sink.
Look at the sky’s vastness,
so many stars have broken away
so many loved ones it has lost
the lost ones, were they ever found ?
But tell me, for the broken stars
does the sky ever grieve ?
That which is past, is gone.

Translation:
There was a flower in life
which, I doted everyday on
when it dried, it dried away.
Look at the garden’s breast,
dried, many of its saplings have
welted, many of its flowers have
that which welted, did it ever bloom ?
But tell me, for dried flowers
does the garden create an uproar ?
That which is past, is gone.

Translation:
There was a cup of wine in life
which, you gave your heart and soul for
when it broke, it did break.
Look at the winehouse’s courtyard
shaken, where many cups are
fall, and merge with the ground
that which fall, do they ever rise?
But tell me, for broken cups
does the winehouse ever regret?
That which is past, is gone.

Translation:
Soft mud, we are made of,
wine drops do tend to fall.
A short life, we have come with,
winecups do tend to break.
Yet, inside the winehouse
there is a winepot, there are winecups.
Those, struck by intoxication
do splurge away on the wine.
He’s a raw drinker,
whose affection is with the cup.
one who has burnt from true wine
does he ever shout, or scream ?
That which is past, is gone.

(Madhushaala)

Translation :
With the intention of going to the house of liquor the drink-seeker gets out of his house.
He is confused about which path shall he choose to get there.
Different people show different path, but i suggest only one thing
Take one path (any one) and hold on to it, you will get to the Madhushala (the house of liquor)

Translation :
Sounding like a spring, the liquor's falling and filling the lives
There are sounds like those of pretty, intoxicating girls playing at the water
We have almost reached, just a few more steps to go
The very thought is making the drink-seekers sway and Madhushala redolent.

Translation :
Pain is this liquor's intoxication and receding memories its bar-tender
That who endures or enjoys pain only must come to my Madhushaala

Translation:
Once a year [you] celebrate holi by lighting a fire and
Only once a year [you] celebrate diwali with fire-crackers and illuminating houses
However, someday [you] should come and see in the "bar"
Every day holi and every night diwali, celebrates Madhushaalaa

Translation :
My son after standing up on my shoulders
started telling me "See dad i am now bigger than you"

I told him "Keep yourself amused by this happy dream of yours
But keep holding my hand"

"The day you let go of this hand
Your happy dream would also break"

"The world is not as green as it appears
There is still no earth under your feet"

"I am your father, i will be a happy man
once you become bigger than me
But when you are standing on your own feet...
But when you are standing on your own feet."

Translation :
Hundred Flowers are less for decorating a bride
One Flower is enough for paying homage to the dead.

Hundred Happiness are less for forgetting a painful momemt
One Sadness is enough to haunt you for a lifetime.
